Do YOU Have the Job Skills Needed for the New Year?

Recently, the Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch posted an interesting article on the "Must-Have Job Skills in 2013."  With the new year right around the corner, the article is timely as we begin to reflect on our New Year's Resolutions with regard to our own careers. In it author Ruth Mantell identified the following four must-have job skills in her article.
  1. Clear Communications
  2. Personal Branding
  3. Flexibility
  4. Productivity Improvement
What this means is that we must continually look for ways to improve our employability skills.  First, and probably foremost is the ability to clearly articulate our thoughts.  With today's text messaging verbiage, the ability to clearly convey important information in writing can be a deal killer.  Further, flexibility is crucial.  As employers are changing quickly to meet production and competitive advantages, they'll be looking to their employees to be able to adapt to the rapid changes.  As well, branding oneself is critical as most employers look to candidate's professional networking sites to see how well you 'brand' yourself.   Branding has moved beyond the product shelves and into our personal lives.  Make sure you're making the most of this much used tool.  And finally, Mantell writes of how "executives are looking for a 20% improvement in employee performance" over the next year.  She points to the importance of looking for creative ways to help your organization and to differentiate yourself.  (http://articles.marketwatch.com, 2012-11-19)
