In a recent Wall Street Journal article more employers are recognizing the skills
and experiences that older adults bring to the job. In the report "For Older Workers, Here Is Where the Jobs Will Be" industries with a bright
outlook for older workers and offers tips on steering clear of common job
interview mistakes were also identified.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), the number of workers in the U.S. grew by 3.5 million from September 2009 to September 2012 out of a total of 4.2 million workers aged 16 and older. Reasons for such as increase include demographics and changing attitudes. Between July 2009 and July 2012, 86% of the population growth among those age 25 to 69 came in the 55 to 59 age range. As well, it noted that more employers are recognizing the skills and experiences that older adults can bring to the success of the bottom line.
So, what are those industries where experts say provide a brighter outlook for older workers? Here they are:
- Education
- Financial Services
- Health Care
- Professional Services and Knowledge Workers
